Abstract

This chapter presents the recent developments in metallic coatings used in pipelines prepared through various techniques. The techniques available to deposit various metallic and composite ternary coatings are discussed. The most commonly available metallic-based corrosion-resistant coatings available nowadays are electroless Ni, Ni-P, and ternary composite coatings. Tailoring of electroless nickel-based coatings’ surface property is predominantly useful for many industrial applications due to their ease of fabrication and better corrosion resistance. Hence, a more detailed discussion on the electroless nickel plating technique is presented in detail. The possible corrosion mechanisms of metallic coatings through different mechanisms are discussed in brief. Further progress in this metallic coating could lead to the design of ternary metallic coatings that inhibit corrosion of underlying substrates. Finally, some commercial and industrial applications of metallic coatings are given in this chapter.
