Abstract
Metallic artificial index gratings are composed of metallic subwavelength structures and show high diffraction efficiency. In this publication a trade-off between different design parameters is carried out. The discussion is based on an approximate model and numerical results obtained by applying optimization techniques to the rigorous diffraction theory.
