Abstract

The electrical resistivity ( ρ) and the relative length change (Δ L/ L) in the polycrystalline Eu 0.58Sr 0.42MnO 3 having distorted perovskite structure have been measured at high pressure up to 2 GPa and magnetic field up to 5 T. By applying magnetic field at low temperature, the electronic state is changed from insulator to metal accompanied by a discontinuous change in ρ and Δ L/ L. The metal–insulator transition field ( H M–I) decreases with increasing pressure. At high pressure above 0.8 GPa, the metal–insulator transition has been observed below 60 K in zero magnetic field.
