Metalanguage for translation project management

Abstract

This chapter aims to construct a metalanguage for translation project management. The translation process consists of two major actions: translational action and translatorial action. Translational action concerns the socalled core process of reading the original text and converting it into a target text. In contrast, translatorial action indicates interactions between a translator and multiple players in the course of translation production. One of the main reasons for preparing translation specifications is to produce a high-quality product, although it is always hard to determine the appropriate level of translation quality. The project manager still needs to ensure that translation quality meets the agreed-upon specifications. To this end, what is needed is a standardised method to evaluate product quality against the agreed-upon quality. Therefore, we added parameters for selecting and customising evaluation methods.
