Abstract

The present work reports results obtained using combined lasershadowing and cross correlation techniques to investigate the metal transferprocess. Experimental results of the droplet size and velocity of 0.9 mm and1.2 mm wires from the globular region to the spray transfer region arepresented. The results indicate that the droplet size is not continuous in thenarrow region of mode transition, and also preferred bands of droplet sizeexist. Droplet velocity measurements show good agreement with a simple modelbased only on the electromagnetic pinch force.
