Abstract

18-membered tetrathia macrocyclic complexes of the type [MLX2], [M = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II), X = Cl or NO3] have been synthesized by template condensation of α,α′-dibromo-o-xylene and 1,3-propanedithiol. The complexes have been characterized by elemental, ESI-mass, spectral (IR and NMR), molar conductance and magnetic susceptibility analysis. XRD has been used to deduce the morphology of the complex. The Absorption and fluorescence studies of Cu(II) complex show a significant binding to calf-thymus DNA. Among all composition, Cu(II) complex has showed crystalline behavior and significant binding with calf thymus DNA.
