Abstract

The thermodynamic parameters ΔH i and ΔS i have been determined for the complex formation reactions of Cu(II) and Yb(III) ions with isobutyrate and α-hydroxyisobutyrate ligands in H 2O, 40% DMSO-H 2O, DMSO, ethanol, ethylene glycol and formamide. A calorimetric technique was used to determine the enthalpies of formation. The reactions were carried out at 25°C in solutions 0·10M in sodium perchlorate. The entropies of formation were calculated from existing free energy data and the calorimetrically determined enthalpy changes.
