Abstract

Abstract Powder Na 0.75 Co 1 - x Ru x O 2 ( 0 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.5 ) samples were synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis. The measurements of their resistivity and susceptibility were carried out. A metal–insulator transition was found with increasing Ru content in Na 0.75 Co 1 - x Ru x O 2 samples. It is suggested that the partial substitution of Ru for Co ions results in the Anderson localization of electrons in CoO 2 layers. Unlike Na 0.75 CoO 2 sample, in Na 0.75 Co 1 - x Ru x O 2 ( x = 0.02 ) sample, the disappearance of a magnetic transition near T c = 22 K , which is caused by spin density wave formation, also indicates that a small amount Ru substitution may result in the disorder in CoO 2 layers. The substitution effect of Ru on transport and magnetic properties in Na 0.75 Co 1 - x Ru x O 2 system is discussed.
