Metal‐Free Synthesis of α‐Iminonitriles via Visible Light Photoredox Catalysis

Abstract

AbstractA reaction of imidazo[1,2‐α]pyridine and Zhdankin reagent (IBA‐N3) is described for the synthesis of α‐iminonitriles via visible light photoredox catalysis. A series of substituted α‐iminonitriles were efficiently prepared in moderate to good yields under mild conditions. This transformation goes through a radical ring‐opening process to furnish the corresponding products. Notably, the reaction does not require toxic cyanide reagents, expensive metal photocatalysts and excessive oxidants.
