Abstract
Attempts to prepare the sulphospinels Cr M 2S 4 with M = Al or In, in which the chromium is expected to be divalent, did not succeed but yielded the metal-deficient spinels Cr 8 9 M 16 9 □ 3 9 S 4 . A strong decrease of the ferromagnetic moment with the In content, as has been observed on materials with overall compositions Cd 1− y In y Cr 2S 4, is found also for other In substituted CrCr 2S 4 materials and is attributed to spin canting.
