Abstract
Equilibrium vacancy concentrations in metal specimens are measured as a function of temperature by observing trapping of positrons emitted by a 19Ne source. The inert gas source, which is generated continuously by an electron linac, permits the extension of vacancy formation energy measurements to metals of high melting point, e.g. Ni, Fe, Mo, Nb etc.
