Abstract

Bis- and tris-Ni(II) complexes of 2-hydrazino-4,6-dimethyl pyrimidine(L) are reported: they are of the type NiL 2X 2· nH 2O and NiL 3X 3· nH 2O (X Cl, Br, I, NO 3, ClO 4, BF 4 and n = 0 or 2). Their structures are deduced from reflectance spectra, visible spectra in solution, IR spectra, magnetic susceptibility measurements in the solid state and conductivity measurements in solution. The magnetic data for all the complexes indicate, a 3 A 2 g ground state for the nickel(II) ion in a magnetically dilute, essentially octahedral environment. The electronic spectra suggest an octahedral configuration in the majority of the complexes; NiL 2Br 2·2H 2O and NiL 2I 2·2H 2O are somewhat tetragonal. IR spectra indicate tentatively the mode of linkage of the ligand molecules and the anion (X) to the metal ion in the complexes in the solid state.
