Abstract
Abstract Biphenyl-4,4′-tetrazonium ion reacts with 1,3-cyclo-hexanedione to form 2,2′-(4,4′-biphenyldihydrazono)bis(1,2,3-cyclohexanetrione). Its ir, nmr and mass spectral data are discussed in terms of the intramolecularly hydrogen bonded dihydrazone structure. Copper(II), nickel(II) and zinc(II) complexes having the composition (M2L2) have been synthesised and characterised. Ir, 1H nmr and mass spectral data clearly indicate the bimetallic nature of the chelates in which the hydrogen bonded carbonyls and the hydrazono nitrogens of the ligand are involved in bonding with the metal ion. Synthesis of the metal chelates of 1,2,3-cyclohexanetrione-2-phenylhydrazone and their characterisation on the basis of ir, nmr and mass spectral data are also included.
