Abstract α,β-Unsaturated ketones or aldehyde, upon irradiation in methanol in the presence of UO2Cl2, afforded cyclic acetals or compound derived therefrom, with the bond formation between β-carbon atom of unsaturated carbonyl compounds and methanol carbon atom.
