Abstract The present consideration of the effects of diffusion on the metal abundance index Delta-S, on the basis of measurements for RR Lyrae stars in nine globular clusters, notes that such effects are probably small. Delta-S metal abundances for 26 globular clusters are also used to recalibrate Zinn's (1981) integrated light metallicity index, Q(39), in terms of Fe/H abundance values, which are determined for 55 globular clusters either from Delta-S or the corrected Q(39) indices. Metallicity distributions for the inner and outer galactic halo clusters are compared with a view to their implications, and it is found that the metal abundance of outer halo globular clusters is close to that of field RR Lyrae stars in the outer halo.
