Abstract

Retent~on and plasma concentrat~on of Srgs tn young Retention and plasma concentration of Sr/sup 90/ in young adult beagle dogs has been determined for 2 year following a single intravenous injection. Retention (% (Editor, I had to insert the three above lines because they came in with letters all over the place) adult beagle dogs has been determtned for 2 years followtng a s~ngle mntravenous tnject~on. Retent~on (% dose) follows the power function (t in days) R = 70.9 t/sup-0.198/. Comparison of these results with those from similar studies with Ra/sup 226/ shows the anticipated similarity in metabolism of Sr/sup 90/ and Ra/sup 226/. However, there are real differences. Sr/sup 90/ retention is less than that of Ra/sup 226/ even though Ra/sup 226/ is excreted more efficiently. This results from higher Sr/sup 90/ plasma concentration. Since Sr/ sup 90/ deposits mainly in the skeleton and its daughter Y/sup 90/ does not translocate, this retention equation can be used to calculate average skeleta1 dose rates for these dogs. (auth)
