Abstract

The positive influence of testosterone on kidney RNA polymerase1 and its effect on RNA metabolism in the sexual organs2 is well known: however the action of the hormone on the free nucleotide metabolism and of RNA in different organs has not yet been sufficiently clarified. Avdalovic et al3. have reported that testosterone enhances the biosynthesis of kidney RNA, but has no effect on its catabolism: the same Authors gave no conclusive evidence concerning the behavior of RNA and the free nucleotides in the liver of castrated rats, following testosterone administration4. We have compared the metabolism of free purine nucleotides and of RNA in the liver and kidney of adult male Wistar rats before and after castration.
