Abstract

Free parasites of Plasmodium berghei were found to incorporate labeled inorganic phosphate into high-energy phosphates by substrate linked and oxidative phosphorylation. But the parasites also appear to utilize the reserve ATP of the host cells when they are within the host cells which may indicate the dependence of the parasite on the host cells for provision of energy.
