Abstract

Folate polyglutamates of various glutamyl chain lengths represent active folate derivatives involved in methionine, purine and thymidylate synthesis in all organisms. Fungi possess a vitamin B12-independent methyltetrahydropteroiltriglutamate:homocysteine methyltransferase [EC 2.1.1.14], which utilizes the triglutamate derivative of methyltetrahydro-folate as a methyl donor.1,2 Among fungi synthesis of folate polyglutamates has been studied mostly in Neurospora crassa 3,4,5 and yeast6.KeywordsNeurospora CrassaAspergillus NIDULANSMethyl DonorFolate DerivativeScientific Research GrantThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
