Abstract
Progesterone labeled with tritium either in position 7 or in position 17 of the steroid nucleus was infused at a constant rate in the left spermatic artery of anesthetized dogs and the testosterone in the venous blood from the left testis examined for the presence of the isotope. 1. 1. When progesterone was labeled with tritium in position 17α an insignificant amount of tritium was present in spermatic vein blood testosterone. 2. 2. When progesterone was labeled with tritium in position 7 a significant amount of tritium was present in spermatic vein blood testosterone. 3. 3. It is probable that the dog testis metabolizes progesterone in vivo to testosteron by the intermediates of 17α-hydroxyprogesterone and androstenedione.
