Abstract

Background and Aims: The metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a constellation of interrelated risk factors of metabolic origin, that directly promote the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. MetS can be found in about a third of patients with essential arterial hypertension (AH). The prevalence of AH in MetS explains the very frequent occurrence of the process of damage to certain target organs such as left ventricular hypertrophy, stiffening of the arteries and increased urinary protein excretion.
