Abstract Metabolic surgery is not only the most effective treatment for morbid obesity, but also leads to the improvement or remission of a number of comorbidities. Some of these outcomes can be attributed to weight loss; however, there is increasing evidence for weight-loss-independent effects of metabolic surgery.
