Abstract

Phthalate esters were metabolized in Nocardia erythropolis by hydrolysis of esters to free phthalic acid. Phthalic acid was metabolized via protocatechuic acid by intradiol fission, i.e. ortho-cleavage, The metabolite from protocatechuic acid by N. erythropolis was identified as β-ketoadipic acid.
