Abstract
Metabolic flux analysis was applied to Streptomyces coelicolor growth under nitrogen limitation with nitrate or ammonia as the nitrogen source. In all cases, maximum specific growth rates corresponding to the same specific glucose uptake rates were calculated in addition to the fluxes of some 200 metabolic reactions. Use of nitrate resulted in lower specific growth rates compared to ammonia. Excretion of some organic metabolites was observed in both limitation cases.NomenclatureAcCoA Acetyl coenzyme AActin ActinorhodinCit CitrateCO2 Carbon dioxideDHAP Dihydroxyacetone phosphateDNA Deoxyribonucleic acidDPG 1- and 3-diphosphoglycerateE4P Erythrosi 4-phosphateF6P β-D-Fructose 6-phosphateFAD Flavine adenine dinucleotideFADH2 Flavine adenine dinucleotide (reduced)FbP β-D-Fructose 1 and 6-his-phosphateForm FormateFum FumarateG6P Glucose 6-phosphateGL3P Glycerol 3-phosphateGlc GlucoseGro GlycerolIcit MalateNAD Nicotineamide-adeninedinucleotideNADH Nicotineamide-adeninedinucleotide (reduced)NADPH Nicotineamide-adeninedinucleotide phosphate (reduced)NH3 AmmoniaNO3−1 NitrateO2 OxygenOA OxaloacetateOG 2-OxoglutaratePEP PhosphoenolpyruvatePG3 3-Phospho-D-gl yceratePGA3 Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphatePO4−3 PhosphatePyr PyruvateR5P Ribose 5-phosphateRNA Ribonucleotide AcidRu5P Ribulose 5-phosphateSO4−2 SulphateSuc SuccinateSucCoA Succinyl-CoA
