Abstract
The administration of 5mg. of norethynodrel or 2mg. of chlormadinone acetate daily for a period of 3weeks in 6 healthy young females maintained on 80μg of mestranol daily and a constant caloric intake produced a consistent increase in lean body mass without a gain in total body weight. Moreover, the finding of a positive nitrogen balance indicated an accumulation of body protein. An unexplained negative phosphorus balance occurred with both progestins.
