Abstract

Metabasites are orthoderived rocks associated with Proterozoic metasedimentary rocks of the Votuverava Formation, Acungui Group, State of Parana. The metamorphic mineralogy is represented by actinolite, hornblende, albite, epidote, titanite, quartz, apatite and opaque minerals, and the relict igneous mineralogy by clinopyroxene and brown hornblende. The igneous protoliths of the these rocks had an important participation of fractional crystallisation with the possible formation of cumulates represented chiefly by clinopyroxene. They are chemically similar to oceanic magnesian basalts of normal mid-oceanic ridge basalts (N-MORB), but with low contents of incompatible elements, showing affinity with komatiitic basalts that probably extruded during crustal stretching related to the opening of the Acungui basin.
