Abstract

Objective To explore the expression and significance of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in Wilms tumor. Methods Documents published in Wilms tumor from 1994 to 2009 were retrieved through CNKI,Wanfang databases and VIP on case-control studies associated with VECF and Wilms tumor. Taking into account the possible heterogeneity of the studies,a statistical test for heterogeneity was performed. The odds ratio and 95% CI were used to evaluate the risks of the expression of VECF in Wilms tumor. The Meta-analysis was applied with RevMan 4.2.2 software. Results Three of the case-control studies were selected for this Meta-analysis,including 98 Wilms tumor cases (case group) and 48 control (control group). The expression of VECF was 56 in case group and 7 in control group. The pooled odds ratio was 6.66,and the 95%CI was 2.7 1-16.40(P< 0.01). The expression of VEGF was related to clinical staging (P < 0.01),but was not related to tissue type (P > 0.05) and tumor metastasis (P = 0.05). Conclusion VECF may play an important role in the pathway of Wilms tumor progression and metastasis of Wilms tumor, and it is feasible for early diagnosis, treatment and precaution. Key words: Wilms tumor; Vascular endothelial growth factor A; Meta-analysis
