Abstract

The electrical resistivity of PuO 2−x has been measured between PuO 1,77 and PuO 2,00 in the temperature range 700–1200 °C. It is concluded that the major defect species are anion vacancies. The kinetics of oxidation has been measured at 1080 °C. The chemical diffusion coefficient of oxygen was computed and the oxygen self-diffusion coefficient is derived as a function of the deviation from stoichiometry.
