Abstract

Cross sections for (n, 2n) processes induced by 14.7-MeV neutrons have been measured by activation for nuclei ranging from Ce to Pb. The (n, 2n) cross sections are 10–20% smaller than the total non-elastic cross sections of these nuclei. The data give little evidence for a dependence of the (n, 2n) cross section on the asymmetry parameter ( N– Z)/ A and no evidence for shell effects.
