Abstract

On behalf of SRDS 2005 Program Committee, we welcome you to Orlando, Florida. This year, SRDS received 68 research papers submitted from all over the world. Paper submissions corroborate the continuing interest and importance that reliable distributed systems play in the highly competitive computing market. We are happy to see that the research program of the symposium remains as vibrant as ever. The proceedings in front of you contain 20 research papers selected at the Program Committee meeting held in Columbus, Ohio, on 10-11 June 2005. Preceding this meeting, Program Committee members completed 244 detailed paper reviews, providing the basis for thorough discussion. Our goal was to have every submitted research paper reviewed by at least three members of the program committee. The strong commitment and dedication of the PC members resulted in an average of over 3.5 reviews per paper. Over 60 reviewers participated in the evaluation of submitted papers. We are proud to have been given the opportunity to lead such an enthusiastic group of worldwide experts. Reviewing and selecting papers has been an overwhelming task and no words can express our gratitude to the Program Committee members for the job well done. In addition to Program Committee members, we want to thank SRDS General Co-Chairs, for their guidance. Richard Gerber masterfully designed and maintained START Conference Management Tool. At West Virginia University, students from High Assurance Systems Research Center, Dejan Desovski, Yan Liu, and Petar Popic, provided invaluable technical assistance in designing and maintaining the symposium Web site, printing papers and review reports. We would like to acknowledge the willingness and approval of our employers, West Virginia University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Technical University Darmstadt, for providing work environments supportive of our professional service. For any comments about this year’s program, or suggestions about the future, you are more than welcome to talk to us during the symposium, or contact us afterwards. We hope you will remember SRDS 2005 as a wonderful professional and personal experience.
