Abstract
A new species of Rosaceae subfamily Maloideae discovered in Arkansasis described as Mespilus canescens. This represents a new generic record for the North American flora. An assessment of its ecological and conservation status is provided. Critical re-examination of specimens rejected from Crataegus during studies for the Vascular Flora of the Southeastern United States has un- covered a new generic record for the North American flora. The taxon is also a new species, being a totally distinct species of Mespilus, and is described below.
