Abstract

The orientation and distribution of mesoscopic structures in the Mountain Pine Ridge area of the Maya Mountains, British Honduras, do not yield evidence for the presence of a regional unconformity between the Maya Series and the Macal Series. Some areas of the Maya Series outcrop, as well as the entire Macal Series outcrop in this area, have undergone only one period of folding, which involved moderately intense deformation about almost vertical, east-striking axial planes. The only evidence found for the presence of two folding events in the Maya Series is confined to an area near the contact between the series and an intrusive granite in a zone of strong faulting. These observations suggest that the Maya and Macal rocks are part of a single unit in the Mountain Pine Rid e area.
