Abstract

We here investigate possible pi mesonic contributions to the masses of the light baryons. The description of the spectrum is improved in particular for the Σ-Λ splitting. However, the meson and gluon exchange contributions are difficult to distinguish one from the other. The role of the pion field in the spectrum of P-wave baryons and for the charge radius of the neutron is also briefly discussed.
