Abstract

We have studied the mesonic and non-mesonic decay width of Λ-hypernuclei by performing calculations in nuclear matter and using the local-density prescription to apply the results to finite nuclei. For the non-mesonic decay we have used only pion exchange for the ΛN → NN transition. However the pion is properly modified by its strong interaction with the nuclear medium. This gives as a consequence some stability in the results with respect to unknown parameters of the pionic interaction, offering the possibility of learning about other ingredients of the interaction by comparing with experiment. The mesonic width proves to be highly sensitive to modification of the pion properties in the medium.
