Abstract

It is shown that in the p-wave I = J = 1/2 ρ-meson nucleon scattering, the N* (1236 MeV 3-3 πN resonance) exchange force is attractive and possibly strong. We then suggest, in the static single channel calculations, an existence of a bound state in this channel. This bound state can decay into the πN or ππN state when we introduce the ρ→2 π decay interaction. The connection between this bound state and the Roper resonance, which has the same quantum number as the nucleon and the mass about 1400 MeV, in pion-nucleon scattering is discussed.
