Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this paper is twofold: First, a Nitsche‐type method for the treatment of inhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions for the Navier–Stokes equations is proposed. This formulation is then used for discretization of Dirichlet control problems using adaptive finite elements. The mesh adaptation is driven by an a posteriori error estimator for the whole optimization problem. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
