Abstract
In 1975-1986,29 cases of mesenteric cyst were admitted to Beijing Children's Hospital,and other 12 to Taiyuan Children's Hospital Most of them were under 10 years of age and the youngest was 4 days old.The recurrent abdominal distention and pain,and a soft mass in abdomen are the cardinal signs.However,it might be complicated by peritonitis,acute or chronic recurrent intestinal obstruction.It can be readily diagnosed by plain X-ray,barium meal,barium enema and B-ultrasonography.The fluid in cysts may be serous,chylous or bloody.Most of the cysts located in the ileum region.Patieats with symptoms should be operated.Removal of the cyst with or without enterectomy is the first choice of treatment.If a total resection is impossible,a thorough decortication leaving the back part of the residual cyst wall would be preferable.Small amount of serous secreation will be absorbed by the peritoneum.
