Abstract

It is an honor to review Merton Miller's contributions to financial economics. His work with Franco Modigliani built the framework, and much of the fabric of modern corporate finance. This report is organized in five sections: (i) corporate finance and financial economics; (ii) the Modigliani-Miller (MM) theory of optimal capital structure; (iii) the MM theory of dividend policy; (iv) MM and the normative theory of corporate finance; and (v) conclusions.
