Abstract

Merlin is important to the revival of Arthurian and mythic elements in a modern context fictionalized by C.S. Lewis in That Hideous Strength . But Merlin is especially key to understanding the meta-fantastic elements of the story, including the narrative method that bridges science fiction material with that of the fantastic as well as addresses a number of linguistic concerns about the inefficacy of literary language and the difficulty of awakening poetic faith in a modern audience.
