Abstract

Recognizing the need for further basic biological knowledge to elucidate the epidemiology of rodent-borne diseases such as plague and tularemia, the Communicable Disease Center has established a field ecology study at Santa Fe, New Mexico. The study of the distribution and interrelationships of rodent ectoparasites has been complicated by the discovery of numerous new species. The following description brings the number of known species of the Nearctic genus Meringis to thirteen.
