Abstract

The mean zonal kinetic energy transports across arbitrary latitude walls in the northern hemisphere are evaluated from five years of data. It is found that the stress-work processes at the boundaries are much more significant than the actual advection of zonal kinetic energy. The stress component associated with the earth's rotation accounts for a net northward transport of zonal kinetic energy across the equator. DOI: 10.1111/j.2153-3490.1970.tb00534.x
