Abstract

To model impulsive noise in power line channels, both the Bernoulli–Gaussian model and the symmetric α-stable model are usually applied. Towards a merge of existing noise measurement databases and a simplification of communication system design, the compatibility between the two models is of interest. In this paper, we show that they can be approximately converted to each other under certain constrains, although never generally unified. Based on this, we propose a fast model conversion.
