Abstract

The merging beams technique was used to study the reaction H2+ (D,H) HD+ in the energy range of 0.05–12 eV. The cross sections for the reaction have been measured in the range 0.05–5 eV, and at 2 eV there is good agreement with trajectory surface hopping calculations. The diatomic product is scattered forward with respect to the direction of the neutral beam in the c.m. coordinate system over the entire energy range. The relative kinetic energy of the products is nearly equal to the relative kinetic energy of the reactants.
