Abstract

Lac Ste. Therese, a remote Canadian Arctic lake in the Northwest Territories, Canada, has high natural (non-point source) mercury concentrations in fish. The high mercury levels have persisted for over 18 years. Lac Ste. Therese has had consistently higher mercury concentration in fish than the other three lakes sampled within the basin, regardless of species tested.
