Abstract

Effective mentorship has been shown to be essential for faculty career success in a wide array of academic disciplines, including medicine.1-3 Faculty members who are engaged in effective mentoring relationships are more likely to remain at academic health centers and advance in rank more rapidly.4-8 Furthermore, effective mentorship is associated with greater career satisfaction and better career performance, including improved teaching of residents and medical students and increased quality of patient care.
