Abstract

Mentorship is crucial to a successful career in medicine, particularly for physicians seeking to succeed in an academic environment. Mentoring is a rewarding and influential activity for both mentees and mentors, and can help mitigate the effects of work-related stress and burnout.1 Mentees might have differing needs, including learning endoscopy, developing a research focus, obtaining funding, or navigating a job search. Mentors can provide guidance in areas of clinical or research interest, create opportunities for productivity, and serve as role models for trainees and junior physicians.
