Abstract
Four educators with ties to chemistry are among the 10 individuals who have won this year's Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics & Engineering Mentoring. The award honors those who have guided a significant number of students over a sustained period of time. In particular, these mentors have encouraged minorities, women, and people with disabilities to take up careers in scientific, engineering, and other technical fields. The winners include Ajay K. Bose, professor of chemistry at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., honored for more than 40 years of work, including an undergraduate summer research program; George Castro, associate dean of the College of Science at San Jose State University, who, among other contributions, hired and mentored more than 20 minority and female science and engineering students for IBM Research; Ram S.
