Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this clinical focus article was to describe the experiences and recommended components of clinical fellow mentorship in voice and upper airway disorders. Method: Information is provided on the pathway to mentorship taken by this writer. Recommendations taken from the literature and the writer's experience in mentorship are provided. Skills in supervision, collaboration, and communication between mentor and fellow are highlighted. Conclusion: Clear communication and expectations, individualized supervision and feedback, and the knowledge and skills of the mentor are essential in training clinicians in the specialized area of voice and upper airway disorders.
