Abstract

The article addresses advancement mentoplasty as an effective solution for the correction of mandibular retrusion, a condition characterized by abnormal posterior positioning of the mandible, which has significant aesthetic and functional consequences. In this sense, the objective of this study was to construct a clinical case report, which describes the entire process of planning and performing the surgery in a 24-year-old patient who presented aesthetic complaints due to mandibular retrusion. The methodology used was case report and literature review, using articles published in the last 10 years to corroborate or refute the clinical findings. The surgical intervention involved an intraoral incision, chin osteotomy and fixation with a “Chin” plate with 6mm Advancement – System 2.0 (TRAUMEC).® The postoperative results indicated a significant improvement in facial harmony, in addition to an increase in the patient’s self-esteem. The study discusses the relevance of a detailed preoperative evaluation, emphasizing the importance of personalized surgical planning to ensure the effectiveness of the results. The reviewed literature corroborates the findings of the study, highlighting that advancement mentoplasty not only corrects mandibular retrusion but also improves patients’ quality of life by restoring facial aesthetics. The research contributes to the discussion on orthognathic surgery, reinforcing advancement mentoplasty as a safe and effective technique for the correction of mandibular anomalies, by combining functional and aesthetic aspects in its surgical approach. In addition, the use of three-dimensional technology in planning reinforces the precision and personalization of the treatment, ensuring long-lasting and aesthetically satisfactory results.
