Abstract
The quality of the user interface of software products is largely determined by the extent the interface supports the development of adequate mental models in the mind of the user. This paper outlines an evaluation method for user interfaces in which the development of mental models by the user plays a prominent role. This is done by presenting an evaluation study of the user interface of an on-line library system. The method has been developed at Delft University of Technology and is based on Hacker's action theory.
